Simsbury Center National Historic District

If you’ve never walked around the town where you live, I highly recommend that you do.  They say familiarity breeds contempt but I think it breeds blindness.  I took some time today to walk around the Simsbury Center National Historic District because I’ve always been intersted in the architecture along Hopmeadow Street.  I was lucky to find a Hopmeadow Walk brochure right outside the gates of the Simsbury Cemetery.  I was surprised to discover that so many of the buildings are either on the National Register of Historic Places or on the State Register.  I wrapped up my walk at Plan B Burger Bar on Railroad Street.  It’s in the old Simsbury Train Station, another National Historic Register site.  I plan on going back in the summer to capture more shots of these beautiful buildings.  I’d also like to get a look at the interior of the Methodist Church because it has stained glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany.  You can find out more about the Hopmeadow Walk and tourism in Simsbury at www.simsbury-ct.gov/tourism.  The Tourism Committee sponsors a cell phone walking tour that I’ll check out on my next visit.
